Preview this book

Windows Workflow Foundation is a ground–breaking addition to the core of the .NET Framework that allows you to orchestrate human and system interactions as a series of workflows that can be easily mapped, analyzed, adjusted, and implemented.

As business problems become more complex, the need for a workflow–based solution has never been more evident. WF provides a simple and consistent way to model and implement complex problems. As a developer, you focus on developing the business logic for individual workflow tasks. The runtime handles the execution of those tasks after they have been composed into a workflow.

Pro WF: Windows Workflow in .NET 3.5 provides you with the skills you need to incorporate WF in your applications. This book gets you up to speed with Windows Workflow Foundation quickly and comprehensively. The practical aspects of using WF are covered in a lively tutorial style with each workflow concept illustrated in C#. You’ll find detailed coverage of how to customize your workflows and access them in a variety of ways and situations so you can maximize the advantages of this technology.

Pro WF: Windows Workflow in .NET 3.5 is written by an experienced Windows and .NET developer. Rather than simply duplicating the available references on the subject, author Bruce Bukovics leads you through a series of practical WF topics that enable you to gain immediate experience and learn how to use the technology as you progress through the book.

Access Database Design & Programming free book download

Product Description
"Access Database Design & Programming" takes you behind the details of the Access interface, focusing on the general knowledge necessary for Access power users or developers to create effective database applications. When using software products with graphical interfaces, we frequently focus so much on the interface that we forget about the general concepts that allow us to understand and use the software effectively. In particular, this book focuses on three areas:

Database design. The book provides an enjoyable, informative overview of database design that carefully shows you how to normalize tables to eliminate redundancy without losing data.

Queries. The book examines multi-table queries (i.e., various types of joins) and shows how to implement them indirectly by using the Access interface or directly by using Access SQL.

Programming. The book examines the VBA integrated development environment (IDE). It then goes on to provide an excellent introduction to Data Access Objects (DAO), ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), and ADO Extensions for Data Definition and Security (ADOX). These sections serve as a handy introduction and primer for basic database operations, such as modifying a table under program control, dynamically adding and deleting a record, and repositioning a record pointer. The concluding chapter focuses on common programming problems, such as computing running sums and comparing two sets.

Unlike other Access books that take the long, detailed approach to every topic of concern to Access programmers, "Access Database Design &Programming" instead focuses on the core concepts, enabling programmers to develop solid, effective database applications. This book alsoserves as a 'second course' in Access that provides a relatively experienced Access user who is new to programming with the frequently overlooked techniques necessary to develop successfully in the Microsoft Access environment.

Anyone interested in learning Access in depth, rather than just scraping the surface, will enjoy and benefit immensely from reading this book.

Product Description
A virtual evolution in IT organizations throughout the world has begun. It is estimated that currently 3% of all servers run virtually and that number is expected to grow rapidly over the next 5 years. Server Sprawl and escalating IT costs have managers and system administrators scrambling to find ways to cut costs and reduce Total Cost of Ownership of their physical infrastructure. Combining software applications onto a single server, even if those applications are from the same software vendor, can be dangerous and problems hard to troubleshoot. Virtual Server allows you to consolidate 15 to 20 or even more servers onto a single physical server reducing hardware, electrical, cooling, and administrative costs. These virtual servers run completely independent of each other so if one crashes the other are not affected. Planning and implementing a server consolidation is a complex process.

This book details the requirements for such a project, includes sample forms and templates, and delivers several physical to virtual migration strategies which will save both time and costs.

From the Back Cover
A virtual evolution in IT shops large and small has begun. Microsoft's Virtal Server is the enterprise tool to free an infrastructure from its physical limitations providing the transformation into a virtual environment--this book shows you how.

This book will detail the default and custom installation of Microsoft's Virtual Server 2005, as well as basic and advanced virtual machine configurations. It will also discuss the requirements for a server virtualization and consolidation project and the cost savings surrounding such an effort. Furthermore, the book will provide a thorough understanding of the benefits of a virtual infrastructure and a comprehensive examination of how Virtual Server can ease administration and lower overall IT costs. Lastly, the book delivers a thorough understanding of the virtual evolution which is underway in many IT organizations and how the reader will benefit from shifting from the physical to a virtual world.

Statistics and Probability for Engineering Applications with Microsoft Excel: With Microsoft Excel By William J. DeCoursey free book download

More than ever, American industry especially the semiconductor industry is using statistical methods to improve its competitive edge in the world market. It is becoming more imperative that graduate engineers have solid statistical know-how, yet engineers in industry typically are not well-prepared to use statistics and they are fuzzy about how to apply statistical tools and techniques. This valuable reference makes statistical methods easier and more accessible to engineers. Although the book can be read sequentially, like a normal textbook, it is designed to be used as a handbook, pointing the reader to the topics and sections pertinent to a particular type of statistical problem. It contains the following features: * Covers all major topics treated in a standard college engineering statistics course, but minimizes the mathematical derivations and focuses on practical applications * Uses real data sets/case studies taken from electronics, electrical engineering, and other engineering fields, such as mechanical and chemical engineering * Contains numerous software examples using the powerful statistical functions of Excel In addition, the book provides an "engineering problem solver" section that directs the reader to the relevant section of the book for the problem they are trying to solve. The accompanying CD-ROM contains the Excel data sets for the examples and case studies given in the book, along with other statistical tools and software. * Filled with practical techniques directly applicable on the job * Contains hundreds of solved problems and case studies, using real data sets * Avoids unnecessary theory

Miss Wodtkes book does not cover the complete MFC, that is true, there is no mention of the OLE, Synchronisation and Internet classes but then this is the book which fresh MFC programmers go to, before going to Jeff Prosise or a David Kruglinsky. This is the book which which says that it covers certain things( at the back of the cover though) and does just that, definitely there are no stories for entertaining the reader. The earlier reviews are filled with her ex-students who are totally biased( what Miss Wodtke does in her classes is not the topic under review). The book has quite a few Typo errors, I am sure Miss Wodtke agrees. All the Example programs provided in the books compile and Run well on Windows95( VC 4.2 as well as 5). The readers are advised to go through the chapter on the IDE where the author has told users what to do in the settings. The book is not a course on Exception handling (Even the best books don't touch this in their programs, the underlying wrapped API's are supposed to handle them), All the most frequently used classes and functions of the MFC(the common controls is a highlight here), the tick-tack example with complete splitter is one of the fastest for the beginner to get into real programming. The The Document-View Architecture covered is one of the best for a beginner, The book is available for a heavily discounted price in India(It is definitely worth the price). Unfortunately, this is a book which almost everyone has gone through but feels ashamed to admit(ofcourse, there are books which readers don't even bother to lay their hands on). Some readers would rather show that they grasped everything from the bigger books at the first go(so much for vanity!!!).
